Enzyme - LINK

Enzymes are biomolecules that catalyze (i.e. increase the rates of) chemical reactions.[1][2] Almost all enzymes are proteins. In enzymatic reactions, the molecules at the beginning of the process are called substrates, and the enzyme converts them into different molecules, the products. Almost all processes in a biological cell need enzymes in order to occur at significant rates. Since enzymes are extremely selective for their substrates and speed up only a few reactions from among many possibilities, the set of enzymes made in a cell determines which metabolic pathways occur in that cell.

Like all catalysts, enzymes work by lowering the activation energy (Ea or ΔG‡) for a reaction, thus dramatically increasing the rate of the reaction. Most enzyme reaction rates are millions of times faster than those of comparable uncatalyzed reactions. As with all catalysts, enzymes are not consumed by the reactions they catalyze, nor do they alter the equilibrium of these reactions. However, enzymes do differ from most other catalysts by being much more specific. Enzymes are known to catalyze about 4,000 biochemical reactions.[3] A few RNA molecules called ribozymes catalyze reactions, with an important example being some parts of the ribosome.[4][5] Synthetic molecules called artificial enzymes also display enzyme-like catalysis.[6]

Enzyme activity can be affected by other molecules. Inhibitors are molecules that decrease enzyme activity; activators are molecules that increase activity. Many drugs and poisons are enzyme inhibitors. Activity is also affected by temperature, chemical environment (e.g. pH), and the concentration of substrate. Some enzymes are used commercially, for example, in the synthesis of antibiotics. In addition, some household products use enzymes to speed up biochemical reactions (e.g., enzymes in biological washing powders break down protein or fat stains on clothes; enzymes in meat tenderizers break down proteins, making the meat easier to chew).

Sprouts are rich in digestible energy, bioavailable vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, beneficial enzymes and phytochemicals, as these are necessary for a germinating plant to grow[1] . These nutrients are essential for human health. To clarify, the nutritional changes upon germination & sprouting have been summarized below. Chavan and Kadam (1989) concluded that - “The desirable nutritional changes that occur during sprouting are mainly due to the breakdown of complex compounds into a more simple form, transformation into essential constituents and breakdown of nutritionally undesirable constituents.”

“The metabolic activity of resting seeds increases as soon as they are hydrated during soaking. Complex biochemical changes occur during hydration and subsequent sprouting. The reserve chemical constituents, such as protein, starch and lipids, are broken down by enzymes into simple compounds that are used to make new compounds.”

“Sprouting grains causes increased activities of hydrolytic enzymes, improvements in the contents of total proteins, fat, certain essential amino acids, total sugars, B-group vitamins, and a decrease in dry matter, starch and anti-nutrients. The increased contents of protein, fat, fibre and total ash are only apparent and attributable to the disappearance of starch. However, improvements in amino acid composition, B-group vitamins, sugars, protein and starch digestibilities, and decrease in phytates and protease inhibitors are the metabolic effects of the sprouting process.”

Sprouting and the Living foods diet

Advocates of a raw food diet promote the use of sprouting as an effective way to increase the nutrient value, and digestibility, of beans, seeds and nuts. Sprouts are in fact the most nutrient dense food on earth[citation needed] – nutrient density refers to the amount of nutrients per calorie. This is why many people on a low-calorie diet make sprouts and baby greens the mainstay of their diet, especially blended for easier digestion.

Many raw food dietitians avoid grains in favor of nuts and seeds. While raw nuts and seeds contain enzyme deactivators that harm the stomach[citation needed], and cooking nuts and seeds denatures their fats and oils, soaked or sprouted nuts and seeds have natural oils and active enzymes at the same time.

One main criticism of the raw foods diet, especially the insistence on the health value of sprouted nuts, seeds, and occasionally grains, is the very intensive labor time require for food preparation. Not only does it take a long time and lots of labor to sprout nuts and seeds, but the sprouting process makes them not as shelf-stable. Furthermore, unlike most cooked foods, there are very few commercial avenues for purchasing such foods. Most "raw foods bars" are raw but not sprouted (and therefore do not have active enzymes) because the bars would not keep as long on the shelf. The same is true of most nut and seed butters.

Protein sources - sprouts + beans + lentils + chick peas sprouted legumes + etc

This a new source I did not really consider before:

Another one is soaking lentils (26 grams of protein/100 grams) in water and eating them raw or mixed with veges.

I tried chick peas (23% protein!) flower before but it seems relatively hard to digest - could be mistaken though.

The big new step could be around sprouts! These are easily available in any supermarket.

Will check that further, especially for protein content.

Not sure how much is in there...

In many cases, triggers for emotional eating are external.

In other terms there is an external trigger or sponsoring force encouraging a negative eating pattern.

It can come from friends or family members who suffer from the same negative eating patterns and don't want you to succeed.

Or it can be the marketing hype surrounding junk food.

In the case of friends and family members, you acn observe competitive patterns.

It is because of this competitive attitude that people will encourage negative eating patterns in others.

It is as well related with the desire to share and connect, even if it is within a self destructive circle.

This works in the same way as drinking and smoking.

It is a social thing.

With food corporations stimulating consumption of junk food, the interest in profit.

The agenda is very similar though!

Someone benefits from someone else eating junk food.

So, when confronting with positive food choices, a person will often select junk food instead of healthy food because of the ongoing marketing brain washing which is now totally subconsciously embeded in people's minds.

All these positive images associated with junk food are now paying off and to experience fun, joy or pleasure, someone will head for the junk food section because they want to experience thse same positive emotions again and again.

The truth is the the pleasure that someone experiences when eating healthy is from a totally different octave!

The pleasure you egt when eating raw food is so intense and delightful and totally overpowers the emotions associated with junk food.
