Why do some people say that dating someone at work is a bad idea? What's the worst that could happen?

And, how does one act if they do start dating a co-worker? Is it important to keep it all a secret?

Is it wrong to date a guy you work with?

Hi!

These are excellent questions!

Why do some people say that dating someone at work is a bad idea?

Because it mixes work and love.

Working together successfully can sometimes be a challenge. Same goes for having a relationship with someone.

Now, when all this gets mixed, you need lots of extra skills to make it work. If you are smart and can make the difference between these two roles (coworker and lover) you can make it.

For many people though dating someone from work creates lots of confusion.

Another important element is that you end up seeing each other all the time and get little space to breathe out of the relationship. One or both can feel limited very soon.

The third reason why it can be tricky is in the case you break up or it does not work out. You end up having to be with each other every day!

What's the worst that could happen?

You break up, or have a big fight and are still forced to work together after that.

You break up and he ends up dating your colleague and best friend.

How does one act if they do start dating a co-worker?

Keep love and business separate.

Give each other a break when you are at work.

Don't claim each other at work.

The fact that you date does not mean that you have to be together 100% of the time.

This tends to quickly asphyxiate a relationship.

Is it important to keep it all a secret?

People love gossips! When you are in love, you can become the target of very nasty judgments and attacks. Check all the tabloids!

This can be a real challenge for a young relationship.

My advice is: keep it secret for a while until your couple is strong enough and you know that it is serious.

Of course, you can as well be totally confident and simply be yourself no matter what. After all, dating someone is no sin :D

So, if you are good at it, simply be yourself and forget about what others will say or think. It can be exhausting to try to please everyone
