Circular Reasoning Is A Trap With No Exit
Circular reasoning is when the proof is just the claim, said again.
Nothing new is offered. Nothing is actually proven.
It sounds like logic. It is not logic. It’s a loop.
Here’s What It Actually Sounds Like
“I’m right because I’m always right.”
“You’re too sensitive because you get upset too easily.”
Notice something? The reason and the claim are the exact same thing.
It Feels Convincing. That’s The Danger.
Circular reasoning doesn’t sound crazy. It sounds confident.
Confidence is not proof. Repetition is not evidence.
But your brain hears it stated firmly, and it starts to feel true.
This Is How It Gets Used On You
You ask a real question. You get a circle instead of an answer.
“Why did you do that?” “Because that’s just how I am.”
That’s not an explanation. That’s a wall dressed up as one.
You End Up Arguing In Circles Too
You push back. They repeat the same claim in different words.
You push back again. Same loop, new sentence.
You’re not losing the argument. There was never an argument to win.
Stop Looking For The Exit Inside The Circle
There is no better way to phrase your point that will break a circle.
The circle isn’t waiting for smarter words. It’s just a circle.
The exit isn’t inside it. The exit is you, stepping outside it.
How To Spot It Fast
- Same Claim Twice — The “proof” is just the claim said again.
- No New Info — Nothing added, nothing explained.
- Feels Slippery — You can’t pin down what they actually mean.
- Always Circles Back — Every answer returns to the same spot.
How To Respond Without Getting Pulled In
- Name It — Say: “That’s the same point, just said again.”
- Ask For Proof — Say: “What’s the actual evidence for that?”
- Don’t Repeat Back — Don’t restate your point a fourth time. Stop.
- Exit The Loop — Say: “We’re going in circles. I’m done here.”
The Truth That Breaks The Circle For Good
A claim is not proof just because it’s repeated with confidence.
You don’t owe anyone endless laps around the same point.
You’re allowed to walk away from a circle that was never going anywhere.
