Something hits. You react.
Energy builds. Tension rises. The charge is real.
And if you don’t move it — it comes out as words. Destructive ones.
Emotion Is Energy. Energy Needs Movement.
This is the most important thing to understand about fights.
Emotion is not a thought. It’s a physical charge in the body.
And like all energy — it needs somewhere to go.
If you don’t move it consciously, it moves on its own. Out of your mouth. Onto your partner.
Don’t speak. Shift.
The Energy Shift Cycle
Here’s what’s happening inside you during a fight:
- Trigger — Something hits. You react. The charge begins.
- Charge — Energy builds. Tension rises. The body prepares for battle.
- Movement — This is where you intervene. Channel the energy. Change your state.
- Release — Let the energy move. Let the charge discharge.
- Clarity — Clear mind. Calm body. Now you can choose your next move.
The window is between Charge and Speaking. That’s where the shift happens.
Four Ways To Shift The Energy
- Walk — Change your location. Change your state. Move your body through space.
- Shake — Literally shake your body. Discharge the tension. Animals do this naturally.
- Move — Stretch. Flow. Move the energy out through your body.
- Breathe — Deep inhales. Long exhales. Reset the entire system.
None of these take long. 60 seconds of movement can change everything.
Move The Energy Before It Destroys The Conversation
The words you say from a charged state are the most damaging words in your relationship.
You don’t mean them fully. But they land. And they stay.
Move first. Speak after.
