The conversation is going too fast.
Words are coming out faster than either of you can process them. Points are being made before the last one was even heard.
Speed is the enemy of understanding.
Slow The Conversation Down So Understanding Can Catch Up
This is exactly what the slide shows.
When things move fast — confusion takes over. Nobody is actually hearing anything. Everyone is just waiting for their turn to speak.
Slow it down. Let understanding catch up.
The Moderation Flow
- Speed — The conversation is moving faster than either person can process.
- Confusion — Points blur together. Nothing lands. Frustration builds.
- Slow Down — You deliberately reduce the pace. Create space between statements.
- Understanding — Things start to land. Both people start to hear each other.
Slow the speed. Raise the understanding.
Four Keys To Moderation
- Reduce Pace — Talk slower. Pause between sentences. Give words room to land.
- Pause More Often — Stop before your next point. Let what was said settle first.
- Listen Fully — Don’t prepare your response while they’re still talking. Actually hear them.
- Clarify Before Responding — Make sure you understood before you reply. Repeat back what you heard.
Say It Directly
“Can we slow this down? I want to hear you properly.”
That one sentence changes the pace of everything.
It signals: I’m not trying to win. I’m trying to understand.
Slow down. Understanding arrives when speed stops getting in the way.
