Fight Mastery happens in stages.
You can’t skip to understanding. You can’t jump to repair. You can’t reconnect while the room is still on fire.
There’s an order. And the order matters.
You Can’t Solve A Problem Mid-Explosion
This is the mistake most couples make.
The fight starts. Things heat up. And instead of stopping it β they try to solve it.
Right there. In the middle of the chaos.
It never works.
Your brain is flooded. Your body is activated. You’re not thinking β you’re reacting.
You can’t solve a fire while you’re still pouring gasoline on it.
Fight Mastery Happens In Stages
Here’s the sequence:
- 01 β Catch The Wave β Recognize the shift before it becomes a fight
- 02 β Stop The Escalation β Interrupt the fight before it explodes
- 03 β Self Regulate β Calm your body. Lead yourself.
- 04 β Understand β See the real issue. Drop the story.
- 05 β Repair β Address the wound. Take responsibility.
- 06 β Reconnect β Rebuild trust. Create safety.
Each step depends on the one before it.
Skip a step and the whole thing collapses.
Step 2 Is The Gateway
Without stopping the escalation, nothing else is possible.
You can’t self-regulate while still attacking. You can’t understand while still defending. You can’t repair while still at war.
Stop the escalation first. Then everything else opens up.
De-escalation isn’t the end of the work. It’s the beginning.
De-escalation creates possibility.
