Coming Back To Power Is Your Job First
Your partner can help. Support can help. Touch can help.
But regulating your own nervous system is ultimately your responsibility, not theirs.
Solo Repair Is A Skill, Not A Punishment
This isn’t about doing it alone because nobody cares.
This is about building a capacity that makes you unshakeable, with or without help.
The More You Self-Repair, The More Mastery You Build
Every time you regulate yourself, you strengthen the skill.
Emotional mastery isn’t inherited. It’s trained, one solo repair at a time.
Your Partner Might Not Have The Capacity Right Now
They have their own wounds. Their own bandwidth. Their own limits.
Expecting them to fully hold your regulation every time is expecting more than they may have to give.
Together-Repair Still Matters
Soothing. Softness. Coming back to love and resonance.
This isn’t either-or. Solo capacity and shared repair both belong in the picture.
But There’s A Second Stage Most People Skip
After the soothing, something deeper needs attention.
Your own narrative. Your own story about what just happened.
Check Where You’re Still Spinning
Notice if you’re still looping in the same shadow story.
That loop needs release before repair can actually finish.
Repair And Resolution Are Not The Same Thing
Repair is coming back to safety. Resolution is solving the actual issue.
You cannot do resolution while your system is still emotionally hijacked.
Wait Until You’re Actually Calm To Resolve Anything
- Feel The Body — Heart rate settled, breath slow and easy.
- Check The Voice — Can speak without an edge or a shake.
- Notice The Charge — The topic doesn’t spike your pulse anymore.
- Confirm Real Safety — Not performing calm. Actually calm.
It’s Okay To Take Days
A big fight doesn’t heal on a deadline.
Rushing back to “normal” too soon just buries the charge instead of clearing it.
Fight Integration Comes After Repair
This is where you zoom out and study the whole event.
Not to relitigate it. To actually understand it.
What Fight Integration Actually Looks Like
- Find The Trigger — What specifically set this off?
- Check Your Sensitivity — Was this reasonable, or was your system already primed?
- Track The Escalation — What moves made it bigger?
- Name What Worked — What de-escalation actually helped?
- Name What Didn’t — What made things worse, on both sides?
Understand Both Contributions, Not Just Theirs
This isn’t about assigning blame.
This is about seeing the full mechanics of how two people built an escalation together.
Self-Regulation Is The Real Superpower Here
The couples who master conflict aren’t the ones who never fight.
They’re the ones who know how to come back to themselves, on their own, every single time.
