What Frame Actually Means
Your frame is your own internal reality — what you know to be true about yourself, independent of what’s being said to you in the moment.
Holding frame means staying anchored there while someone else tries to hand you a different one.
Jackal Attacks Are Built To Break It
- “You always…”
- “You never…”
- “You’re just like…”
Each one is an invitation to abandon your own reality and adopt hers instead — even for just a moment.
Three Ways Frame Usually Breaks
- Collapse — you take her verdict as fact. “Maybe she’s right, maybe I am that.” Frame is gone the moment her verdict becomes your self-assessment.
- Counter-attack — you fire back with your own verdicts. “Oh yeah? Well you’re…” Not frame either — just two people who’ve both left their center, meeting in the wreckage.
- Disappear — you go blank, silent, checked out. It looks like composure. It’s actually frame abandoned in a different direction — leaving yourself instead of defending yourself.
What Holding Frame Actually Looks Like
Present. Unshaken. Still standing in your own reality while hers crashes past you.
“I hear you’re upset. That’s not who I am, and I’m still here.” Calm, not cold. Steady, not silent.
Your Center, Not Her Reaction
The moment your sense of self starts tracking her intensity — calm when she’s calm, shattered when she’s not — frame is already gone. It has to come from somewhere more stable than her current state.
Frame Isn’t Coldness
You can be moved by her pain and still not lose yourself inside her verdict of you. Those aren’t opposites — holding frame doesn’t mean shutting her out or refusing to feel anything.
Why This Actually Helps Her Too
A jackal attack that successfully knocks you off your center just confirms, underneath, that nothing here is solid.
A frame that holds — calmly, without punishing her for testing it — is often the very thing that lets the storm actually pass.
The Skill Compounds
The first few times, it will feel almost impossible to stay standing. Every time you hold it anyway, it gets a little more natural — and the attacks themselves tend to lose their charge over time.
